Blue Hens Wrap Up Regular Season with Three-Game Series vs. Towson

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware will conclude its regular season with a three-game series against Colonial Athletic Association rival Towson beginning Thursday at Bob Hannah Stadium.
The Blue Hens (21-21, 9-12 CAA) need just one win in order to clinch a berth in next week's CAA Tournament, while the Tigers need to win two out of three games in order to earn a postseason bid.
Jim ShermanThe Blue Hens enter this series off its first CAA road series win of the season. UD took two of three games at CAA newcomer Elon last weekend and saw its bats catch fire. The Hens put up 24 runs against the Phoenix and clubbed a season-high four home runs in their 11-9 victory Sunday.
Delaware's performance at the plate last weekend was highlighted by stellar performances by Joe Giacchino, Greg Olenski, and Zach Lopes. Giacchino had seven hits, including a double and triple in the series, while Lopes posted five hits against the Phoenix and registered a 4-for-6 effort in Sunday's win.
Olenski recorded two home runs, one double, and four RBI in the three-game set at Elon. The senior currently leads the team with a .379 batting average and is tied for the team-high with Lopes with 12 doubles. Diaz Nardo and Olenski have both tallied a team-high five home runs this season.
Towson (16-33-2, 8-13 CAA) comes into the final three games of the season having lost three of its last four games, but defeated Mount Saint Mary's 10-2, Monday to snap a three-game losing streak.
The Tigers won two of three games vs. Northeastern in their last CAA series, but Towson's lone CAA road series win came at Hofstra in April.
Adam Davis will start game one for Delaware, while redshirt freshman Ron Marinaccio will get the nod in game two. UD's starter for game three is to be announced based on the results of the first two games.
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Games one and two will start at 3 p.m., while game three will start at 1 p.m.
· Delaware and Towson first met in 1971 and the Blue Hens lead the all-time series 78-41.
· Towson won two of three matchups against UD last season.
· The Tigers scored 33 runs in three games against Delaware last season.
· Towson lost 18 of its first 20 games this season and have allowed opponents to score at least seven runs in 11 of their last 13 games.
· Delaware is third in the CAA with a team batting average of .301.
· Olenski's .379 batting average is second in the CAA and Lopes sits in fourth place in the conference with a .366 average.
· Marinaccio's 3.94 ERA ranks sixth in the CAA.
· Tyler Powell carries a seven-game hitting streak into this series.
· Delaware will honor 10 seniors in a senior day ceremony prior to Saturday's game.
