Baseball Defeats Delaware State on Dollar Dog Night

NEWARK, Del. -Â The University of Delaware baseball program defeated in-state rival Delaware State in front of a crowd of 1,217 people for dollar dog night by a score of 15-8 on Tuesday at Bob Hannah Stadium.
With the win, Delaware's record improves to 11-26 overall and the Hornets drop to 3-30.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- The Fightin' Blue Hens offense garnered 15 hits, including three hit games from Anthony DeCesare (3-for-5, HR, 4 RBIs) and Anthony Charles (3-for-4, RBI, BB).
- UD had multi hit games from Evan Bouldin (2-for-4, RBI, BB), Sam Winsett (2-for-4, HR, 4 RBIs, 2B, BB), and Noah Burroughs (2-for-3, RBI, 3B)
- Matt Reyes had a career night on the mound. He pitched a career-high seven innings, allowed six hits, struck out four batters and zero earned runs. He was credited with the win and is now 1-1 overall.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hens scored eight run second inning to get the game going. The rally started with when Harry Carr was walked, and Charles scored on a wild pitch in the same sequence. A RBI single from Bouldin, a two-run double from Winsett, a three-run home run from DeCesare, and a double stole involving Carr going to second, and Charles going to home to help give the Blue Hens an 8-6 lead.
- UD poured on to their lead with a solo home run from Sal Mineo, a two-run home run from Winsett, and a Charles RBI single in the third inning.
- In the fifth, LT Cockrill hit a solo home run, Burroughs hit an RBI triple and DeCesare singled to the shortstop to give the Blue Hens a 15-7 lead.Â

Conference USA play continues as the Blue Hens travel to Murfreesboro, Tennessee to take on Middle Tennessee State from April 17-19.Â
