Idris Earns All-East Honors; Relays Advance at Day 2 of ECAC Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Senior Amira Idris earned All-East honors in the long jump and the University of Delaware had two relay teams advance to the finals to highlight the second day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium Saturday.
Idris (Hylton/Woodbridge, Va.) continued her outstanding spring as she placed third in the long jump with a leap of 19-feet, 6.75-inches. The two-time Colonial Athletic Association Outstanding Field Athlete also placed fifth in the event in 2013 and 11th in 2014. She will also compete in the triple jump Sunday at 11 a.m. She finished in 18th place in that event in 2012.
Delaware currently ranks No. 22 in the team standings with six total points with New Hampshire currently in first place with 28 points heading into the final day Sunday.
Delaware's 4 x 100 meter relay team of Idris, sophomore Tyler Jackson, junior Chelsi Campbell, and junior Latazah Coleman had the fifth fastest time in the preliminaries and qualified for Sunday's final. The foursome ran to a time of 46.29, the second fastest time in school history.
Coleman also earned a place in Sunday's final as she placed fifth in the 200 meter preliminaries with a clocking of 24.51. She was just .65 off the top time.
Also for the Hens, the 4 x 800 meter relay team of junior Shanel Dickens, sophomore Betsy Erlanger, senior Melissa Mazzo, and freshman Angie Spadaccini ran to a school-record time of 9:00.95 in the preliminaries to place eighth overall and advance to Sunday's finals. The foursome broke the previous mark of 9:02.61 by Emily Gispert, Lindsay Prettyman, Jessica Olsen, and Rachel Wasserman in 2011.
Tyler Jackson ran a time of 12.08 in the 100 meter trials to advance to the semifinals where she placed 13th with a time of 12.13, just missing a spot in the finals; the 4 x 400 meter relay team of junior Carolyn Darr, senior Breanna Nicholson, Jackson, and Campbell finished 13th in the 4 x 400 meter relay (3:52.03) but did not advance; Nicholson was 17th in the 400 meter hurdles with the second fastest time in UD history (1:01.84) but did not advance; and freshman Liz McGroarty was 20th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:39.44 but did not advance.
In Sunday's action, Idris will compete in the triple jump at 11 a.m., the 4 x 100 meter relay team will compete in the finals at 12 noon, freshman Sarah Hillman will take part in the shot put at 12:30 p.m., Coleman will compete in the 200 meter finals at 2:15 p.m., and the 4 x 800 meter relay team will compete in the finals at 2:40 p.m.
