Delaware Suffers First Setback of Season, Falls to Richmond 4-0 at UVa. Nike Soccer Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The University of Delaware women's soccer squad could not overcome a big second half by the University of Richmond Friday afternoon as the Blue Hens dropped a 4-0 decision to the Spiders in the opening round of the Nike Soccer Classic hosted by the University of Virginia at Klockner Stadium.
The Hens (1-2), who suffered their first loss of the season after starting the season 2-0, played Richmond even for the entire first half and for nearly 10 minutes into the second stanza before Richmond (1-1) exploded for four goals to put the game away.
Richmond got scoring from four different players led by Lexi Prillaman, who also dished out an assist. Ashley Reifner dished out two assists, feeding Meaghan Carrigan for the first goal of the game 7:13 into the second half and assisting Prillaman on the second goal 20 minutes later.
Delaware did outshoot Richmond 16-13 and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks but could not put a score on the board. Delaware's goalkeeper Kailyn Rekos collected four saves while Richmond's Katie Brennan posted the shutout with five saves.

• Delaware had opened the season with wins of 2-1 over Loyola and 2-0 over Army West Point last weekend
• The teams met for only the second time with Richmond taking a 2-0 victory in 1999
