No. 12 Delaware Looks to Continue Success With Trips to No. 6 Duke and Richmond

NEWARK, Del. – One of the hottest teams in the nation, No. 12 Delaware hopes to continue its success with trips to Duke and Richmond this coming weekend.
The Blue Hens will take on arguably their toughest opponent so far this season in the No. 6 Blue Devils Friday at 6 p.m. before facing the Spiders Sunday at noon.

LAST TIME OUT
It was a defensive battle the entire game, but Delaware pulled out the 1-0 victory over the Pacific Sunday afternoon at Fred P. Rullo Stadium. UD controlled possession of the ball for the majority of the game and did not allow a single Pacific shot until the 68th minute. Lisa Giezeman posted the lone goal of the day, her team-leading ninth of the season, in the 28th minute off an assist from Marjelle Scheffers. The Blue Hens had multiple opportunities for a high-scoring afternoon, but were unable to capitalize on 11 penalty corners. Emmeline Oltmans collected just one save for the second full shutout of her career.
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· The lone 8-0 NCAA Division I team in the country, Delaware defeated Bucknell and Pacific this past weekend to set a new school record with eight consecutive wins to start the year. Delaware previously went 7-0 in 1994 and 2007 to kick off the year.
· With their hot start, the Hens have improved to No. 12 in the most recent Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. The Blue Hens received 454 votes to earn the No. 12 ranking and is just one of four Division I squads with a perfect record.
· Most recently, the Hens climbed in the polls as high as 11 in 2009 and 2003.
· Delaware is currently second nationally behind UConn with 4.88 goals per game, 4.25 assists per, 14.0 points per and a scoring margin of 3.0. In total, the Hens have outscored opponents, 39-16.
· Lisa Giezeman picked up her second CAA Rookie of the Week Award after notching six points on three goals, including the lone score of Sunday's game against the Tigers. She leads the Hens with 20 points and nine goals (three game-winning) and has scored at least one goal in all but one game this season. The freshman is seventh nationally with 2.5 points and 1.13 goals per game.
· Michaela Patzner was held without a point Sunday after tallying 15 in the previous three games.
· With 108 career points, Patzner (41g, 26a) has moved past Julie Grandell (1974-77) in the record books and is now fourth in program history. Casey Howard (2005-09) is third in with 115 points (51g, 13a).
· Patzner's 41 goals are good for eighth all-time while her 26 assists place her fifth.
· On the year, Patzner is currently ranked 11th with 0.75 assists per game and 19th with 2.25 points per contest.
· Emmeline Oltmans has allowed 1.88 goals per, a mark good for 26th in the NCAA.
· Esmée Peet broke into the career Top 20 list at CMU and is now tied for 15th all-time with 71 career points (29g, 13a). Lauren Baugher (27g, 17a) previously registered 71 career points from 1992-95.
· This season is the 45th overall in program history. Delaware has tallied a composite record of 487-312-39 (.604) with 28 10-plus-win seasons.
SERIES INFORMATION
· Delaware is 3-9 against this weekend's opponents.
· The Blue Hens are 0-8 all time versus Duke since the first meeting in 1998. Delaware has only traveled to Durham once and came away with a 5-1 loss to the No. 3 Blue Devils as a part of the Duke Champions Challenge in 2006.
· Delaware is 3-1 all-time over Richmond since the series inception in 1997. The Hens are 2-0 overall in Richmond with wins coming in 1997 and 2007.
· A member of the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame, Pam Bustin (UMass '90) has amassed a record of 56-36 (.609) in her five years with the Blue Devils. She previously served as the head coach at Louisville and Hofstra.
· Gina Lucido (Ball State '94) is in her ninth season as the head coach of the Spiders. She is 102-76 (.573) all-time at Richmond.
ABOUT NO. 6 DUKE
The No. 6 Blue Devils are 5-3 on the year and most recently defeated then-No. 15 Old Dominion, 3-1, last Sunday. Ashley Kristen leads Duke with 17 points on four goals and nine assists and is currently ranked first nationally with 1.13 assists per game. She's also 24th with 2.13 points per contest. Heather Morris has posted a team-best five goals with two assists for 12 points. All-American Lauren Blazing has started all eight games for the Blue Devils and has allowed 1.71 goals per game with a .741 save percentage, marks good for 22nd and 19th in the NCAA, respectively.
ABOUT RICHMOND
The Spiders have won two straight after dropping four consecutive to move to 4-4 overall. UR allowed just one goal in the two games after defeating UMass and Lock Haven. Richmond travels to William & Mary for a Friday evening matchup before hosting Delaware Sunday at noon. Kelly Quinn was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in double overtime with less than two minutes remaining to pick up the win at UMass. The forward currently leads the team with three goals on the year. Amy Cooke (2g, 2a) and Avery Safford (1g, 4a) have also posted six points apiece for the Spiders. Amanda Hoyt and Emily Braunewell have split time in the cage as Hoyt has tallied a 2.92 goals against average (.571 save percentage) while Braunewell has allowed 2.98 with a .615 save percentage.
