Delaware Travels North to Fairfield and Cornell for Weekend Matchups

NEWARK, Del. – Following a 2-0 opening weekend, the University of Delaware field hockey squad continues its season on the road with matchups at Fairfield (4 p.m. Friday) and Cornell (1 p.m. Sunday).
BROADCAST
Neither match will have a live broadcast feed. Sunday's game at Cornell will, however, be available Monday via a game archive on the Ivy League Digital Network.

SERIES INFORMATION
· Delaware is 1-2 against this weekend's opponents.
· The Blue Hens are 1-0 all-time versus Fairfield after defeating the Stags, 2-1, last season in Newark. Allie Mikelson and Michaela Patzner scored for Delaware in the victory.
· Cornell holds a 2-0 advantage over UD with both decisions coming at Fred P. Rullo Stadium. Last season, the Big Red collected a 4-2 win over the Hens. Allie Mikelson tied a school record with three defensive saves in the loss.
· Jackie Kane (Fairfield '86) is in her 24th season with the Fairfield field hockey program. Kane has played in or coached in more than 150 victories for the Stags and is the winningest coach in team history.
· Donna Hornibrook (New Brunswick '83) boasts a record of 98-82 and begins her 12th year with the Big Red. Prior to arriving in Ithaca, Hornibrook coached at Houghton (111-394) and New Brunswick (60-8-6). Among Division I head coaches, she ranks 15th overall for winning percentage (.632) and 18th for career wins (209).
ABOUT FAIRFIELD
The Stags defeated Colgate, 6-2, in their season opener last Saturday. Fairfield saw a hat trick from last season's leading scorer Ann Burgoyne, which included two goals in the opening 10 minutes. Freshman defender Ariane Von Schenk also made an impact on offense tallying one goal and two assists in her career debut. Emma Singer registered five saves in her first game in a Fairfield uniform. After spending seven years in the America East, the Stags are playing their first season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Fairfield was selected to finish second in the MAAC Preseason Poll.
ABOUT CORNELL
The Big Red open the 2015 campaign Friday with a matchup against Lock Haven before taking on the Blue Hens Sunday. A year ago, Cornell posted an 11-5 record overall, tying the school record for victories in a single season previously set in 2008 and 2010. The squad also set a school record for points (127), points per game (7.94), goals (45) and assists (37) in a single season. Senior Marisa Siergiej currently sits in seventh place in program history with 62 career points and needs just six more to move into sixth place. Classmate Taylor Standiford is second all-time with 27 career assists and needs just seven more to break the school record.
