UD Swimmers & Divers Return to Action Saturday to Host Alumni Day vs. Drexel, Northeastern

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware men's and women's swimming & diving teams will return to pool for the first time in over a month Saturday when the Blue Hens host rivals Drexel and Northeastern in a Colonial Athletic Association tri-meet at Rawstrom Natatorium in the Carpenter Sports Building.
Admission is free to the event, which will begin at 12 noon. The meet will also serve as Alumni Day for the Blue Hens as nearly 40 alumni who competed in six different decades are scheduled to return and be recognized during the meet. An alumni reception will also take place Saturday evening in Newark.
Both Delaware teams will be competing for the first time since several squad members took part in the US Swimming AT&T Winter Nationals on Dec. 3-5 in Federal Way, Wash. Saturday's action will mark the first dual meet competition for the Hens since a Nov. 7 tri-meet at LaSalle that also included Rider.
The Delaware women enter with a dual record of 7-1 (2-1 vs. CAA opponents) while the men are 3-3 (1-1 CAA). The meet will begin a three-meet homestand that will also feature home meets vs. Iona and St. Peter's on Jan. 17 and vs. Penn on Jan. 23.
The Drexel men enter with a dual record of 3-3 (0-1 CAA) while the Dragon women are 4-3 overall (0-2 CAA). Northeastern, which competes only on the women's side, brings in a dual mark of 4-2 (1-1 CAA).
In last year's tri-meet in Philadelphia, the Drexel men defeated Delaware 168-132 while on the women's side, the Blue Hens swept Drexel (185-114) and Northeastern (189-111) while Northeastern edged the Dragons 152-147.
The order of the meet will include competitions in the 200 medley relay, 1,000 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 1-meter diving, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 3-meter diving, 200 individual medley, and 400 freestyle relay. The alumni group will be recognized during a break in the action at approximately 2:30 p.m.
