NEWARK, Del. -- Come out and support a great cause, save a life, and help the University of Delaware win another conference championship next Wednesday, Nov. 16, when UD hosts the 15th annual Colonial Athletic Association Blood Challenge at the Carpenter Sports Building on North Campus.
University of Delaware athletics is urging all students and members of the community to come out and participate and help the Blue Hens save lives and capture another conference championship.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. and will run until 6 p.m. at the Carpenter Sports Building on campus. Participants can pre-register or walk-up the day of the event.
The University of Delaware won the CAA Blood Challenge in 2015 for the fifth year in a row and ninth time overall with 573 actual donors, which resulted in 588 productive units of blood collected. Each CAA institution had at least 35 donors participate and eight collected 100 or more units of blood.
The event has developed into one of the conference's most important public service projects, having raised nearly 50,000 units of blood over the past 14 years, which has helped to save countless lives.
“The CAA and its members are proud to be involved in such a worthwhile project,” said CAA Commissioner Joe D'Antonio. “The donation of blood has an immediate benefit on thousands of lives in our campus communities. We appreciate the enthusiasm and participation shown on each campus and hope that this year's CAA Blood Challenge will again be an overwhelming success.”
The CAA Blood Challenge was developed by the conference presidents as a fun way to emphasize the critical importance of donating blood. Each institution promotes the event on campus and encourages student groups, faculty, staff, and alumni to participate and support their school.
