Delaware Swimmers Post Three Runner-Up Finishes at Day 2 of CAA Championships

RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware swimmers picked up three runner-up finishes and the Blue Hen men and women remained in third and fourth place respectively in the team standings after the second day of the Colonial Athletic Association Championships Thursday at the Collegiate Schools Aquatic Center.
The third day of the four-day event will get underway Friday morning with preliminaries at 11 a.m. followed by the finals at 6 p.m. The meet will continue Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and conclude with the finals that evening at 6 p.m.
The Delaware men, backed by a second place finish by Cory Camp in the 500 freestyle, remained in third place in the team standings with 230 points. William & Mary leads the team standings with 309 points followed by Drexel, Delaware, Towson, and UNCW.
On the women's side, the Blue Hens got second place finishes from Dominique Montoya in the 500 freestyle and Morgan Whyte in the 50 freestyle and increased their team point total to 200 to stay in fourth place. William & Mary also leads the women's standings with 266.5 points followed by James Madison, Towson, Delaware, Northeastern, UNCW, and Drexel.
Camp, who won the 500 freestyle title a year ago, was second this year as he finished the race in a time of 4:25.80, just .45 behind winner Eric Grimes of William & Mary. Delaware's 200 freestyle relay team of Alex Hillsley, Tomas Elder, Andrew Woerth, and Nicholas Badsky placed third overall with a time of 1:21.70.
Also for the Hens, Hillsley was fourth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:49.18, a mark that broke the school record of 1:49.35 set by teammate Alex Tooley in 2015. Badsky was also seventh in the 50 freestyle (20.67) and Tooley was 10th in the 200 IM (1:50.61).
The Delaware women had two runner-up finishes as Montoya was second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:50.97 and Whyte was second in the 50 freestyle with a clocking of 22.66, just .12 off the winning time of 22.54 by Jaimie Miller of William & Mary. Whyte, who won the CAA 50 freestyle title a year ago, also put in an NCAA Provisional B qualifying time with her performance.
Also for the Hens, the 200 freestyle relay team of Montoya, Alyssa Sanders, Jordan Sawyer, and Whyte placed third with a time of 1:33.19 while Emily Pate was seventh in the 200 IM (2:05.24).
The Delaware men placed third in the team standings a year ago while the UD women were fourth. William & Mary won the men's team championship last year, snapping a 13-year reign by UNCW. The Towson women have won three straight titles and seven of the last eight.
