RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware student-athletes are once again reaching out to the community and asking Blue Hens fans for their support in a great cause by joining them in the fourth annual Colonial Athletic Association Food Drive Challenge that gets underway next week.
Delaware student-athletes are asking fans to donate a minimum of five canned or non-perishable
food items at one of 10 home athletics events between Saturday, March 5 and Friday, March 11.
Those who donate at least five items will receive two free tickets to a future UD men's or women's lacrosse home game at Delaware Stadium.
Donation drop-off sites will also be located in the Carpenter Sports Building, Bob Carpenter Center, and Delaware Field House. Fans can also donate online at YouGiveGoods.com (search for “CAA Food Drive”). All food items collected will be donated to the Food Bank of Delaware.
This annual CAA project not only provides an opportunity for student-athletes to compete in a non-athletic realm across campuses, it also allows institutions to address the need for donated food throughout their communities in an effort to stop hunger.
A winner will be determined based on the number of pounds of nonperishable food collected by each institution. Monetary donations will be accepted and converted into pounds of food at a consistent rate as well. The CAA will announce the winner in April and CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager will present the winning institution with a trophy during a future event.
Last year's event resulted in 8,126 pounds of donated food along with nearly $4,268 in cash to local food banks.
In-person donations will be accepted at the following home University of Delaware Athletics events:
