Delaware Swimmers Record Five Top Three Finishes on Third Day of CAA Championships

RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware swimmers recorded five top three finishes and had two NCAA B qualifying times during the third day of the Colonial Athletic Association Championships Friday at the Collegiate School Aquatic Center.
The Delaware men remained in third place in the team standings while the Blue Hen women stayed at the No. 4 spot. The fourth and final day of the meet will continue Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and conclude with the finals that evening at 6 p.m.
William & Mary leads the men's team standings with 639.5 points followed by Drexel, Delaware, Towson, and UNCW. The Tribe also leads the women's side with 506.5 points followed by James Madison, Towson, Delaware, Northeastern, UNCW, and Drexel.
The women's side was highlighted by senior captain Dominique Montoya who was third in the 200 freestyle and broke her own school record in the process with a time of 1:48.15. Her old mark was 1:49.41 set in 2014. Montoya then joined Alyssa Sanders, Annie Nunes, Julie Capobianco, and Morgan Whyte for a fifth place finish in a time of 3:44.87. Also placing third for the Blue Hen was Madeline Maher in the 400 IM with a time of 4:19.96.
Sanders was also fourth in the 100 backstroke with an NCAA B qualifying time of 54.92 while Capobianco was sixth in the 100 butterfly (56.35), and Whyte was 10th in the 100 backstroke (55.87).
Also for the Blue Hens, the 400 medley relay team of Asher Kiely, Tooley, Tomas Elder, and Nicholas Badsky was fourth (3:20.06), Kiely was seventh in the 100 backstroke (49.19), and Peter DeLuce was 10th in the 100 breaststroke (57.00).
The Delaware men placed third in the team standings a year ago while the UD women were fourth. William & Mary won the men's team championship last year, snapping a 13-year reign by UNCW. The Towson women have won three straight titles and seven of the last eight.
