NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware senior Marvin King-Davis scored a game-high 20 points in his final home game, but Elon spoiled Senior Day festivities with a 77-59 Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball victory over the Blue Hens Saturday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Delaware (7-22, 2-16 CAA), playing its final regular season game before heading to next week's CAA
Tournament in Baltimore, fell behind by 12 at halftime and could never get closer than seven points the rest of the way.
King-Davis hit on 7 of 17 shots from the field and drained all six of his free throws to finish with 20 points, his seventh 20-point scoring effort of the season and his seventh straight outing in double figures for points.
He also pulled a team-high six rebounds and blocked a shot.
Delaware sophomore guard Kory Holden added 16 points and a game-high seven assists for the Blue Hens, who lost their third straight game and dropped the season series to Elon. Junior guard Cazmon Hayes came off the bench to add eight points, five rebounds, and three steals for Delaware.
“Defensively we were able to get some stops in the second half, but we're just really struggling to score,” said Delaware head coach Monté Ross. “In the games we've been successful we've had balanced scoring, but we haven't gotten that lately. When you get down to the CAA Tournament it's a blank slate, so we need to go down there and see what we can do."
Elon (16-15, 7-11 CAA), which snapped a two-game losing streak, got 17 points and nine rebounds from forward Tyler Seibring while guard Dimitri Thompson added 16 points (12 in the first half) and five rebounds and guard Dainan Swoope came off the bench to contribute 10 points. Guard Luke Eddy also contributed six assists.
Delaware had an early lead in the first three minutes of the game but Elon knocked down three straight three-pointers in a span of 45 seconds to take control and led the rest of the way, eventually settling in with a 39-27 lead at the break after outscoring the Hens 7-2 over the final 3:27.
The Blue Hens came out strong in the second half and used a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 45-38 on a layup by Maurice Jeffers with 14:42 left to play. But the Hens could never get closer as Elon answered with five straight points, including a three-pointer by Jack Anton. The Phoenix led by as many as 19 at 68-49 with 5:13 left to play.
