Idris Sweeps Jumping Events to Lead Delaware at George Mason Last Chance Meet

FAIRFAX, Va. -- University of Delaware senior Amira Idris capped the regular season in a big way Sunday afternoon as she captured both the long jump and triple jump competitions at the Last Chance Meet hosted by George Mason University at the GMU Field House.
Idris won the long jump with a leap of 18-feet, 9.75-inches and captured the triple jump with a distance of 40-6.25 to lead all Blue Hen competitors. Her distance in both events qualified her for the ECAC Championships to be held next weekend, March 4-6, at Boston University.
The defending ECAC champion in the triple jump, Idris has now captured 12 career indoor meet individual championships.
Delaware competed in 11 events Sunday at George Mason and recorded 13 top 10 finishes during the day. Idris was the only ECAC qualifier among UD competitors on Sunday but Delaware will take eight athletes to the ECAC meet.
Also for Delaware, Bena Amponsah was second in the 500 meters (1:19.55), Gabby Alaimo was second in the 1,000 meters (3:06.29), Leanza Lopez was second in the mile (5:13.27), Emily Paolucci was third in the mile (5:14.94), and Ashley Bailey was fourth in the long jump (17-4.75).
Also, Molly Doyle was seventh in the 1,000 meters (3:19.73), Ciera Ismail was eight in the 200 meters (26.76), Leslie Ope was eighth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.31), Megan O'Dell was ninth in the 800 meters, Olivia Goncerz was ninth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.31), and Melanie Macchiaverna was ninth in the high jump (5-1).
