RICHMOND, Va. -- Blue Hen sophomore righthander Ron Marinaccio was named the Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Pitcher of the Week while freshman rightfielder Kyle Baker earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors on Monday.
Marinaccio (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) limited Binghamton to just one run on three hits over seven innings of work in Delaware's 12-3 win over the Bearcats on Friday, striking out four and walking only one as he won his fourth consecutive start.
Marinaccio is the first UD starting pitcher to start a season 4-0 since Matt Heppner opened the 2006 campaign with five straight victories. He is the only pitcher in the CAA with four wins this year, and currently ranks second in the league with a 1.08 earned run average.
Baker (Hockessin, Del./Wilmington Charter) batted .778 (7 for 9) with a double, three runs scored, three RBI and four stolen bases as the Blue Hens won all five games on the week. He went 3 for 4 with a double, run scored and two RBI in Friday's triumph over the Binghamton, and added a hit and two runs scored in the first win over the Bearcats on Saturday.
Baker closed the week with a 3 for 3 performance and an RBI in the 5-4 victory on Sunday.
The Blue Hens, who have won six straight games to improve to 11-4 on the year, host Delaware State on Tuesday and Bryant on Wednesday in a pair of 3 p.m. contests at Bob Hannah Stadium.
