RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware freshman first baseman Nick Patten was named the Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Patten (Butler, Pa./IMG Academy-Fla.) hit .471 (8 for 17) with four doubles, a homer, eight runs scored and six RBI as the Blue Hens won four of their five games last week. He batted safely in all five games, increasing his hit streak to six, and added three steals during the week.
Patten went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI during Tuesday's 8-3 win over Delaware State, before adding a run-scoring double Wednesday against Bryant. He finished 3 for 3 with a double, homer, three RBI and three runs scored in the 22-6 victory over Fairfield on Friday, while he recorded two hits and scored three times in Saturday's doubleheader sweep of the Stags.
Patten has appeared in 19 games while starting 18, all at first base, during his freshman campaign, batting .328 and tying for the team lead with 21 runs scored. He currently ranks second on the Blue Hens with seven doubles, and is tied for second with 12 RBI and five steals.
Patten is the fourth consecutive UD freshman to earn CAA Rookie of the Week honors, along with Adam Rapp (Mar. 1), Kevin Mohollen (Mar. 8), and Kyle Baker (Mar. 14).
The Blue Hens, who have won 10 of their last 11 games while improving to 15-5 on the year, conclude their nine-game homestand on Tuesday by hosting La Salle at 3 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium.
