Idris Wins Triple Jump, Hillman Third in Shot for Delaware at ECAC Championships

Wendy McFarlane-Smith, who closed out her eighth season at the helm. “They were able to deliver from all the hard work they put in this season. I am extremely proud of our three All-East finishers, especially Amira, whom has been the pillar for our jumping squad for the past four and a half years. She is just a phenomenal student-athlete, to say the least. Amira will be greatly missed by the coaching staff and her teammates.”

Delaware has now captured an individual ECAC title each of the past three seasons with LaToya James winning the 60 meter hurdles in 2014 and Idris capturing the triple jump each of the last two.

Idris captured this year's triple jump title and broke her own school record in the process as her distance of 42-feet, 0.75-inches surpassed her previous UD mark of 41-8 set in 2015 and was five inches better than runner-up O'Sha Williams of Brown.

Idris has now earned All-East honors four times in her career after winning triple jump titles in 2015 and 2016, placing sixth in the triple jump in 2012, and finishing second in the long jump in 2015.

Hillman (above left) also put in an impressive showing on Sunday as she placed third overall in the shot put with a UD record-breaking toss of 49-feet, 5.5 inches to finish behind winner Amber Monroe of James Madison (51-9) and Michelle Cummings of Liberty (50-0.75).

Hillman, who surpassed her previous record of 47-2.25 set earlier this season, earned All-East honors for the second straight year in the event after finishing sixth last season.
