ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- University of Delaware senior dives Kristina Congdon and Caitlin Stockwell each posted Top 50 finishes during the first day of the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy Monday.
The second day of action will get underway on Tuesday at noon with women competing in the three-meter event and the men battling in the one-meter event. Congdon and Stockwell will both compete for the UD women while Luke Winkler, who did not dive on Monday, will be among the competitors on the men's side.
Congdon, a senior health behavior science major from Yardley, Pa. (Pennsbury HS), was Delaware's top finisher on Monday as she posted a score of 208.85 on the one-meter board to place 39th overall out of 59 divers in the preliminaries. The top six finishers advanced to the finals.
Stockwell, a senior marine science major from San Jose, Calif. (Presentation HS), posted a score of 255.0 in the prelims to place 47th overall.
The overall women's winner was James Madison's Olivia Lehman with a finals score of 585.60. Penn State's Hector Garcia Boissier of Penn State won the men's three-meter event with a finals score of 732.10.
Both Delaware women are making their fourth straight appearance at the NCAA Zone Diving meet. Congdon, the 2016 Colonial Athletic Association one-meter champion and three-meter runner-up, had her best NCAA Zone finish in 2015 when she was 17th in the three-meter and 22nd in the one-meter event.
Stockwell, who placed third in both diving events at the CAA Championships last month, had her best NCAA Zone finish last season with a 33rd place showing in the one-meter event.
Winkler, who captured the CAA men's three-meter event and was third in the one-meter last month, is competing in the NCAA Zone meet for the first time since his freshman year in 2013 when he was 29th in the three-meter and 34th in the one-meter.
