RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware men's and women's tennis squads learned their fates Monday for the upcoming Colonial Athletic Association Championships, which will be held April 21-24 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on the campus of Elon University.
The Blue Hens women, the No. 9 seed, will open tournament play at 10 a.m. Thursday with first round action against ninth-seeded Hofstra. Last season, Delaware defeated the Pride, 4-0, in the first round. Earlier this year, HU (13-6, 1-3 CAA) collected the 5-2 victory over the Hens (8-9, 0-6 CAA) in Oceanside, N.Y.
Should UD advance, the Blue Hens will face top-seeded William & Mary at 9 a.m. Friday in the quarterfinals. The winner moves on to Saturday's 2 p.m. semifinal contest while the CAA women's championship match is set for 2 p.m. Sunday.
The men's championship begins Friday morning at the Burlington Tennis Center as Delaware (3-13, 0-3 CAA) take on top-seeded UNCW (10-8, 1-0 CAA) at 9 a.m. in the quarterfinals for the second straight season.
The winner will advance to Saturday's semifinal contest against No. 4 College of Charleston or No. 5 Drexel. The CAA men's championship match is set for 10 a.m. Sunday. All semifinal and final contests will be played at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Admission is free to all four days of the championship, with both champions earning automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament.
