DOVER, Del. -- University of Delaware bats exploded for 19 runs and 16 hits and UD took advantage of five errors as the Blue Hens overwhelmed in-state foe Delaware State in a 19-8 baseball victory Tuesday afternoon at Soldier Field.
Three different Blue Hens banged out three hits, five players had two or more RBI, seven scored two or more runs, and UD collected seven extra base hits in the blowout victory, Delaware's third of the season over Delaware State.
The Hens used a seven-run second inning to jump out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back, using a five-run seventh and a four-run ninth to add on to the margin. The 19 runs were the third highest total by the Hens this season and the team's 12th game in double digits this season. The 16 hits marked the 19th time this season the Hens have surpassed the 10-hit mark.
Five different Delaware pitchers were used in the victory as Dan Belfer got his first career starter and allowed just one earned run in three innings. Hornich (3-1) came in to pitch the fourth and fifth innings and earned the win and was followed by Milley, Burk FitzPatrick, and Conner Chasanov.
Evan Regez had three hits and Todd Henry knocked in two runs for the Hornets.
