Jim Sherman. “We got good pitching, some timely hitting, and good defense. That is a recipe for winning right there. Tierno had an outstanding game with three RBI, Mayer added the two-run home run, and Milley dialed up his best game of the year on the mound for us.”Delaware broke a scoreless tie as the Hens scored three runs in the fourth inning without a hit. Leadoff hitter Kevin Mohollen was hit by a pitch, followed by stealing second and third base, and scored on a wild pitch. Diaz Nardo brought home another run with a bases loaded walk and Doug Trimble added another run on a sacrifice fly.
A two-run fifth increased the Blue Hen lead to 5-0 as Tierno's double brought home Mohollen and Kyle Baker. Delaware then scored twice in the seventh on an RBI single by Tierno and a groundout by Jordan Glover, added two more on Mayer's two-run shot in the eighth, and two more in the ninth on a double by Ake.
Delaware will continue play this weekend when the Hens host Elon for single games on Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium.
HEN SCRATCHINGS:
• Delaware finishes the season with a non-league record of 22-8, including a mark of 7-4 on the road
• Tierno was coming off a two-RBI effort in Delaware's 4-2 win over William & Mary on Sunday
• Saint Joseph's was 4-1 since defeating Delaware back in April
• Delaware starters have a 3.22 ERA over 53 innings over the last nine games
• Glover upped his team leading to 48 RBI on the season, good for second in the CAA
