ROSEMONT, ILL. -- University of Delaware football standout Jalen Randolph was recently honored by Hammer Strength and the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association as a Hammer Strength All-American.
Randolph, a rising senior on the Blue Hen football team and a standout in the UD backfield, was one of 24 football players nationally to be nominated for the prestigious award. To be considered as Hammer Strength All-Americans, athletes were judged on their personal qualities and achievements in terms of work ethic, leadership, sportsmanship, consistency, and academic performance.
“Jalen's combination of community service, overcoming adversity, leadership, on-field performance, and strength and conditioning numbers earned him this honor,” said UD Assistant Athletic Director for Strength & Conditioning Ted Perlak, who made the nomination. “Jalen, from a maturity and worth ethic standpoint, is a picture of what we hope all of our student-athletes strive to become.”
A four-year letterwinner for the Blue Hens, Randolph earned his undergraduate degree in health behavior science with honors this past May and will be enrolled in the UD master's of business administration program this fall.
He is a four-time member of the Colonial Athletic Association Academic All-Conference team and a two-time recipient of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District 2 All-Academic Team award.
After missing all but three games last season due to an injury, he returns and joins junior Wes Hills and sophomores Thomas Jefferson and Kareem Williams to give Delaware one of the most potent backfield combinations in the country.
A physical back who can catch the ball out of the backfield, Randolph has played in 26 career games with 14 starts and carried 224 times for 1,098 yards (4.9 avg.) and 15 touchdowns while catching 22 passes for 232 yards (10.5 avg.) and three scores. He has rushed for over 100 yards four times in his career with high game of 137. Last year he ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns before being sideline with the injury.
