9/30/2016 4:19:00 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving
John Hayman, entering his 28th season leading the Blue Hens this winter, guides a pair of squads featuring 38 combined returners and 18 newcomers.
The Delaware women welcome 16 members back to a team that posted an impressive 10-2 dual meet record and placed fourth at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships a year ago, while the Blue Hen men return 22 swimmers from a squad that went 6-4 in duals and also placed fourth at the CAA meet.
The UD women's team will be led by junior Sarah Braatz, who placed second in the 500 freestyle, third in the 200 freestyle, and fifth in the 800 freestyle in addition to three top-five relay finishes at last year's conference championship. Senior Madeline Maher, who was third in the 400 individual medley and fifth in the 200 breaststroke while setting a school-record time at the CAA's, is also back for the Blue Hens.
Senior Cory Camp, who holds five school records, returns to pace the Blue Hen men after finishing second in the 500 freestyle and third in the 200 and 1650 freestyle at the CAA meet. Seniors Tomás Elder and Alex Hillsley, who were both members of the 400 and 200 free relay teams that placed second and third respectively at the conference meet, also return for Delaware.
Saturday's meet is the first of three at Rawstrom Natatorium this season for the Blue Hens, who also host La Salle on Nov. 12 and Towson on Jan. 28. The CAA Swimming & Diving Championships will be held on Feb. 22-25 at the Christiansburg (Va.) Aquatic Center.
