Delaware Wins Four Events, Captures Team Title at Towson Tiger Invitational

NEW YORK -- Backed by four first place finishes, the University of Delaware women's indoor track & field team captured the team title at the Towson Tigers Invitational held Saturday evening at the New York City Armory.
The Blue Hens, who also had three second place finishes, posted a team total of 106 points to take the team title and outdistance runner-up Navy with 87.5 points. Host Towson placed third while Morgan State and Manhattan closed out the top five.
Delaware got first place finishes from junior Liz McGroarty (career-best time of 4:54.25) in the mile, from sophomore Ashley Bailey in the pole vault (12-3.5), from sophomore Jeanette Bendolph in the 1,000 meters (2:57.26), and from the 4 x 400 meter relay team of freshman Haley Berkeley, junior Tyra Reid, senior Carolyn Darr, and junior London Freeland (3:52.31).
Picking up runner-up finishes for Delaware were Reid in the 400 meters (56.91), senior Jade Francis in the weight throw (50-0.75), and junior Sarah Hillman in the shot put (44-9).
Reid also placed fourth in the 200 meters (24.93), Freeland was fourth in the 400 meters (57.72), and Bailey also posted a 14th place showing in the long jump (17-4.25).
Delaware will return to action next Saturday when the Hens head to the Gulden Invitational at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.
