Gulden Invitational at Bucknell

Delaware Wins Five Events, Places Third at Gulden Invitational Track & Field Meet

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The University of Delaware won five events, including three sprint titles, on the way to a third place team finish at the Gulden Invitational hosted by Bucknell Saturday at Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Delaware first-year performer and Tennessee transfer London Freeland, who was named the Track Athlete of the Meet, was a triple winner as she took home first place in both the 200 meters (25.80) and 400 meters (58.14) and teamed with Tyra Reid, Carolyn Darr, and Haley Berkeley to capture the 4 x 400 meter relay in a time of 3:53.93.
Also bringing home a first place title for the Blue Hens was Sarah Hillman, who won the shot put (47-0.75) for her sixth career indoor meet title. She also placed sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 51-5.75.
Host Bucknell won the team title with 229.5 points followed by Duquesne (112.5), Delaware (101), Shippensburg (69), Bloomsburg (46), St. Francis, Pa. (44.7), Mt. St. Mary's (42.5), and East Stroudsburg (23.5) in the eight-team field.
The Blue Hens had 13 top five finishes on the day as Darr also placed third in the 400 meters (58.53), Andriene Rose was third in the 60 meters (7.85) and fifth in the long jump (18-1.5), Leslie Ope was fourth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.11), Berkeley was fourth in the 60 meters (7.95), Betsy Erlanger was fourth in the 1,000 meters (3:03.33), Nadia Khoury was fourth in the high jump (5-5), and Jade Francis was fifth in the weight throw (52-4.5).
Delaware will return to action this Friday, Jan. 27 when the Hens compete at the Villanova Invitational held at the Ocean Breeze Park Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
