Blue Hens Drop Spring Season Opener, 5-2, at Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Delaware women's tennis kicked off its spring season Friday afternoon with a 5-2 loss to Rutgers at the East Brunswick Racquet Club.
Graduate student Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) moved to 8-2 on the year and collected her fifth straight win dating to the fall slate by defeating Chloe Lee, 6-0, 6-0, in the third flight.
Sophomore Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) came from behind for the 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 No. 2 singles victory over Ksenija Tihomirova.
Also registering a win on the afternoon was the doubles pair of junior Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) and sophomore Sarah Hall (West Orange, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy). The duo moved to 5-1 on the season with the 6-1 top-flight victory against Mingxiu Du and Lee.
“It was an exciting opening day with many close matches. There were moments when we shined, moments when we learned and moments when we could have done better. We'll take tonight to review and play for tomorrow's opportunity at Princeton.”
