Delaware Women Second at Villanova Invitational; Bailey, Rose, Hillman Capture Top Finishes

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Sophomore Ashley Bailey won the pole vault for the third time this season, junior Sarah Hillman won her second shot put title, sophomore Andriene Rose won her first career meet title in the long jump, and sophomore Jeanette Bendolph set a school record in the 800 meters to lead the University of Delaware women's indoor track & field team to second place team finish the Villanova Invitational Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Delaware finished with 90 points to place second in the 10 team field, finishing behind only Albany, which posted 108.5 points to win the team title. Monmouth was third with 79 points followed by St. John's, Syracuse, Rutgers, host Villanova, Howard, Lehigh, and Southern Connecticut State.
Bailey remained unbeaten in the pole vault this season as she won the event with an ECAC-qualifying height of 11-feet, 11.75-inches as one of three Blue Hen champions on the day.
Hillman was also a winner with a ECAC-qualifying toss of 48-7.5 in the shot put while Rose took home first place with a leap of 18-0.25.
In addition to Bailey and Hillman, also qualifying for the ECAC Championships later this season were the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Tyra Reid, London Freeland, Carly Pettipaw, and Carolyn Darr with a fourth place finish in a time of 3:50.82 and Liz McGroarty with a time of 2:13.40 and sixth place finish in the 800 meters.
Reid also was third in the 400 meters (56.52) with an ECAC-qualifying time of 56.85), Freeland was fifth in the 400 meters (56.85), Hillman was fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 52-1.25, and Anisa Fortt was fifth in the triple jump (37-3.25)
Bendolph was the lone Blue Hen to set a record on Saturday as she covered the 800 meters in a school-record time of 2:12.52 to place fifth overall and qualify for the ECAC Championships. She broke the UD record of 2:13.21 by Pettipaw in 2016.
Delaware will continue action Feb. 3-4 at the Armory Collegiate Invitational at the New York City Armory and at the Frank Coldren Invitational at Ursinus College on Feb. 4.
