Delaware Swimmers & Divers Celebrate Senior Day, Braatz and Savidge Win Big

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware swimming and diving teams hosted a Colonial Athletic Association meet against Towson on Saturday at Rawstrom Natatorium, celebrating Senior Day.
The Delaware women (4-8, 0-5 CAA), who fell 179-118 to a Towson team that has won seven of the last nine CAA titles , captured three individual wins while the Delaware men (2-7, 0-4 CAA) won five swimming individual crowns and one diving title before dropping a 159-139 decision.
Junior Patrick Savidge was the top performer for the Delaware men, winning the 200 freestyle (1:42.39), 200 breaststroke (2:04.92), and the 200 individual medley (1:52.61).
For the Blue Hen women, the top performer was junior Sarah Braatz, who won the 500 freestyle (5:03.69) and was the anchor on the 400 freestyle relay team that placed first with a time of 3:33.40). In addition, Braatz placed second in the 1,000 freestyle.
In addition to the solid performances turned in by Savidge and Braatz, freshman Aaron Nolan won the men's 1-meter diving title (190.20 points), Kevin Basch won the men's 1,000 freestyle (9:30.11), sophomore Mina Feyrer won the women's 100 butterfly (58.34), Samantha Marino (above right) placed first in the women's 100 backstroke (58.81), and Asher Kiely won the men's 200 backstroke (1:53.72).
Saturday was the final regular season meet of the season, and the final home meet for 11 Delaware swimmers, including Natalie Ambrosey, Cory Camp, Matt Daniel, Tomás Elder, Alex Hillsley, Madeline Maher, Annie Nunes, Alyssa Santangelo, and Jordan Sawyer.
Both Delaware teams will take the next three weeks off in preparation for the CAA Championships to be held in Christiansburg, Va. on Feb. 22-25.
