BALTIMORE, Md. -- The University of Delaware men's soccer team battled regional rival UMBC to a 1-1 draw Tuesday night at Retriever Soccer Park.
The Blue Hens (5-5-3) enjoyed a 1-0 lead deep into the second half thanks to a gorgeous 43rd-minute goal by Chad Poarch. On the goal, Poarch received a great pass from freshman Noa Benninga and made a deadly cutback deep in the UMBC (7-3-4) box that allowed the sophomore to uncork a deadly shot into the back of the net.
Delaware held the slim 1-0 lead until the 64th-minute when David Harris scored his first goal of the season. The Blue Hens and Retrievers played two 10-minute overtime periods, but neither team was able to find the elusive go-ahead goal. Hens goalkeeper Todd Morton made a season-high seven saves.
UD returns to action this Saturday at College of Charleston. Kickoff from South Carolina is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Head Coach Ian Hennessy:
“Tonight's game was richly entertaining and a great endorsement for how fun our game can be. We played with a level of quality at times, and continue to grow as a program this season. It would be nice if we can replicate tonight's level for the remainder of our run to the CAA postseason. Making a deep run would be a nice reward for our players.”
