RICHMOND, Va. –- University of Delaware swimmer Kevin Basch (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Swimmer of the Week on Wednesday.
The sophomore comes off a strong performance against La Salle University and Rider University Saturday in Philadelphia, where he finished first in the 500 freestyle (4:39.83) for the second consecutive week. Basch then took the top spot in the 1000 freestyle (9:35.72).
Basch is the first men's swimmer to pick up the weekly award this season, and the first Blue Hen to earn the recognition since Luke Winkler was named CAA Men's Diver of the Week (Jan. 19) two seasons ago.
The distance swimmer has been a standout for the Blue Hens so far this year, as Basch started out the season strong, posting a pair of first place finishes in the 500 free and 1000 free in the team's opener against Georgetown. He took the top spot in the 500 free at last weekends CAA Pod Meet host by UNCW.
Basch placed fifth in the 1,650 freestyle event as a freshman at last year's CAA Championship. The Blue Hens return to action this weekend at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational.
