NEWARK, Del. --The University of Delaware led the Wagner Seahawks 10-4 heading into the bottom of eighth inning on Friday afternoon, but darkness and snow halted the game and the contest was suspended until Sunday.
The game, part of the Delaware Invitational held at UD's Bob Hannah Stadium, will resume on Sunday at 1 p.m. A second regularly scheduled game vs. Wagner will follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the suspended game.
“Jim Sherman said. "[Doug] Trimble and the middle of the order are still doing a good job producing for us and I am happy about that. We'll finish this game on Sunday and get the third game in later that day.”Delaware jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a Trimble home run, the squad's 11th homer of the recent five-game homestand.
The Blue Hens added three runs in the third, four runs in the fifth, and a run in the seventh.
Walter, a sophomore left-hander, pitched six sparkling innings, allowing just a leadoff home run in the first inning and four other hits. The Delaware native tied his career-high, striking out nine Seahawks batters.
After Walter, the Hens summoned top reliever Ron Marinaccio, who struck out four Seahawks in two innings of work.
Binghamton and Wagner were scheduled to play at 11 a.m. Friday morning but that game was canceled due to snow and rain, prompting the Bearcats to exit from the tournament and head back home.
Two games scheduled for Saturday have been canceled due to impending inclement weather, leaving just the completion of Friday's game and the regularly scheduled game for Sunday.
