Delaware Wins Fourth Straight by Downing Villanova, 6-1

WILMINGTON, Del. – The Blue Hens continued their winning ways Sunday afternoon at DuPont Country Club as Delaware cruised to the 6-1 victory over Villanova.
The Hens captured their fourth straight team doubles point with wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 flights.
Sophomore Draga Sabotic (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) and junior Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) led off with the 6-1 triumph in the third flight while freshman Brooke Pilkington (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) and junior Arielle Shuren (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) clinched with the 6-3 decision in the second spot.
In singles action, Pilkington collected her seventh straight top flight victory by defeating Lindsey Evans, 6-3, 6-1.
Sophomore Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) followed with her 10th consecutive win with the 6-2, 6-1 No. 2 singles conquest versus Kaylan Rotman.
For the third straight match, Annie Jaskulski (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) clinched the victory for the Blue Hens as the sophomore earned the hard-fought 5-7, 6-2, 10-4 win against Victoria Martinez in No. 3 singles.
Studnicki and Sabotic wrapped the day with singles victories of their own as Studnicki garnered her fourth straight win with the 6-1, 6-3 decision in the fifth flight while Sabotic posted the 6-4, 6-7 (4), 10-5 win in the sixth slot.
“We competed well today against a young and deep Villanova squad. The energy was high playing alongside the men's team. We're in a good place as we head into our spring break trip next week.”
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Brooke Pilkington is tied for ninth in Delaware single season history with 18 singles wins for a freshman. Amanda Halstrom posted a record 27 singles wins as a freshman during the 2009-10 campaign.
· The Blue Hens have six players who have reached at least 11 singles wins on the year.
· Delaware is 39-21 (.650) in dual match singles play and 38-29 (.567) in overall doubles action.
