Hens Capture Fifth Consecutive Victory by Trumping Richmond, 4-3

RICHMOND, Va. – Delaware opened its spring break trip with their fifth straight win Friday afternoon with its 4-3 victory over Richmond.
Richmond (4-7) swept the team doubles point before the Blue Hens (7-4) responded with three consecutive singles wins.
Sophomore Sarah Hall (West Orange, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy) collected the first triumph of the day by defeating Ana Ramirez, 6-4, ret. In No. 5 singles.
Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) remains unstoppable as the sophomore captured her 11th straight win on the year with the 7-5, 6-1 decision over Gaby Rosales in the second slot.
Graduate student Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton), who transferred to Delaware from Richmond following her freshman campaign, registered the 6-2, 7-5 No. 3 singles victory for the Blue Hens versus Lea Owens.
Freshman Brooke Pilkington (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) clinched the match for Delaware in top-flight action as she battled back for the 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 decision against Dessislava Zlateva for her eighth consecutive win this season.
“This was our first match outside this season and I'm proud of our showing. Brooke hit with courage and earned the victory for us in dramatic fashion. Today was a total team effort as we were resilient, persistent and confident when it mattered most.”
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Brooke Pilkington moved into a tie for seventh all-time in Delaware single-season history with 19 singles wins for a freshman.
· Delaware is 43-23 (.652) in dual match singles play and 89-70 (.560) in overall singles action.
