Delaware Continues to Roll with 4-3 Win at UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – For the first time since 2008, the Blue Hens women's tennis team defeated UNCW as Delaware pulled out the victory with the 4-3 decision over the Seahawks.
The win marked the sixth straight for UD, which improves to 8-4 on the year and 1-1 in CAA play.
Tied 1-1 in doubles action, graduate student Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and junior Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) came from behind to capture the team point to edge Sabrina Barisano and Madara Straume, 7-6 (8-6) in the top flight.
UNCW (6-6, 0-2 CAA) quickly took the first three singles matched to go ahead, 3-1, before the Hens rallied for the win.
In No. 2 singles, sophomore Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) collected her 12th consecutive victory by topping Annika Sillanpaa, 7-5, 6-2.
LaMachia followed with the 6-4, 6-2 win over Alix Theodossiou in the third spot before Studnicki clinched the match on a sudden death deuce point, 7-6 (11-9), 3-6, 6-4, against Celeste Matute.
“This was another down to the wire match. These wins truly reflect a total team effort. I'm incredibly proud of the way we are competing, especially taking charge when the matches are on the line.”
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· The Blue Hens have won three of their last four matches by a margin of 4-3.
· Delaware is 46-26 (.639) in dual match singles play and 82-62 (.597) in overall singles action.
· Denny LaMachia and Amanda Studnicki moved into 10th all-time in Delaware doubles career history with 21 wins as a duo.
