RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware sophomore Kevin Basch and freshman Jacob Lukens have earned Colonial Athletic Association Swimmer of the Week and Diver of the week recognition following their performances this past weekend against Drexel.
Basch (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) earned conference swimmer of the week for the second time this season after his dominant performance last Saturday. A distance specialist, Basch started his day in style, shattering the school record in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:18.71. The mark was the fastest regular season time in the CAA since 2008 and the 95th fastest time nationally this season. The sophomore concluded his day by cruising to victory in the 500 free, posting his ninth individual victory of the season.
The first CAA Diver of the Week recipient since 2016 (Luke Winkler/Jan. 18), Lukens (Glenmoore, Pa./Westtown School) earns the award after winning the 3M (281.40) board and finishing second in the 1M (243.82) this weekend against Drexel. The victory was Lukens' third 3M title of the season.
Delaware returns to action this Sunday, January 15, for its annual Senior Day meet against Iona College. Senior Day festivities will get underway at 12:45 p.m. with the first event scheduled for 1 p.m.
