#24 Blue Hens Use Big Plays To Blow Past UNH, 38-14

DURHAM, N.H. – Since the start of camp this summer, head coach Danny Rocco has talked about how important momentum changing plays are to the University of Delaware football program.
That proved true yet again on Saturday when the Blue Hens forced four turnovers, had a kick return for a TD and blocked a punt en route to a dominating 38-14 win over the Wildcats of UNH to improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the league play.
"We're really excited to come up here and come away with a win," Rocco said postgame. "This is a tough place to play and UNH is a tough to beat, so this is a big win for our program. We really had a number of big plays in the game and a lot of guys step up in big moments for us."
Delaware held the UNH offense to just 190 yards on the day, including just 55 rushing and just one TD. The Blue Hens took away three INTs on the day, tallied four sacks and forced a fumble in a devastating defensive effort.
Senior Troy Reeder had another stellar day with eight tackles, three for a loss, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt. Classmate Nasir Adderley finished with five tackles, but his biggest play with a 92-yard kickoff return for a TD in the classmate.
Senior Cam Kitchen and freshmen Kedrick Whitehead had their first collegiate INTs in the win, while Nijuel Hill had his second INT of the season.
Offensively, junior Pat Kehoe tossed for two TDs, while senior Kani Kane averaged over four yards a carry and added a TD in the contest.
"Coach told us before the game that anyone in the locker room could make a play and that's all I was trying to do," Kitchen said. "We wanted to take momentum into halftime and we wanted to make a statement defensively and we were able to do that today."
Kehoe and Kane carried the Blue Hens down the field to start the game, guiding an eight play, 60 yard drive to open the game, finishing with a 22-yard strike to Charles Scarff, his sixth TD of the season.
From there, it was the defense who would shine in the first half, holding UNH without a score in the first quarter and forcing a fumble to set up a Frank Raggo field goal to push the lead to 10-0.
After the Wildcats finally found the endzone, Kitchen would come up huge, picking off a pass deep into UNH territory with just over a minute left in the half to set up a Joe Walker rushing touchdown and a 17-7 lead at the break.
More big plays came in the second half when Troy Reeder blocked a punt in the third quarter to set up a Kane 18-yd TD and a 24-7 Blue Hens advantage.
Kehoe would hook up with Gene Coleman twice on the next Delaware drive to set up a Vinny Papale TD and pushed Delaware's lead to 31-7 with less than five minutes to play in the third quarter.
The Blue Hens would cruise from there with Hill and Whitehead both picking off passes and Adderley supplying yet another highlight reel play with a jaw-dropping 92-yard kickoff return for a TD that helped seal the game.
Delaware will now face rival Towson, another 3-1 team in the CAA, in a crucial game at Delaware Stadium next Saturday. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
