NEWARK, Del. – Senior Jeanette Bendolph has spent many early mornings running the trails of White Clay Creek State Park during her career with the University of Delaware cross country program.
Â
On Saturday, Bendolph toed the start line on the course for the last time in a meet and made it a memorable running, racing to victory on the six-kilometer course. It was her first collegiate victory. The veteran led the Blue Hens to a team victory with Delaware claiming the top seven spots in the Blue and Gold Invitational. Â
Â
Bendolph clocked in 14 seconds quicker than her time in the Delaware Invitational earlier this fall, taking the top spot in the race with a time of 23:31.99. Junior Stephanie Bazan was close behind, clocking in at 23:37.94 for second place.Â
Â
Sophomore Deja Rodriguez-Santiago, juniors Valerie Romero and Analise Kaminski, senior Leanza Lopez and freshman Samantha Side rounded out the top-seven for the Blue Hens.Â

Â
"I was very pleased with the group who raced today. Almost everyone improved their time from when we ran on this course three weeks ago, with most of those improving by more than 30 seconds. This shows that we're peaking at the right time and should be ready to go at our conference championships in three weeks from now." – Head Coach Ryan Waite
Â
"When we're working out, we have a saying that's 'last one, fast one'. This was my last time racing on our home course so I wanted to make it a fast one. This is a tough course and I think it'll help us be more prepared for the conference meet in a few weeks." - Jeanette Bendolph
