BETHPAGE, N.Y. – All season long, the message around the University of Delaware was about running for each other. It was a team centric from the first practice.
That played through in the 2018 CAA Championships as a complete team effort led the Blue Hens to the program's best finish since 2001, taking third place with 85 points.
Junior Diana Dunn and sophomore Roxanne Ramirez both took home All-CAA honors, marking the first time in program history that the Blue Hens had two student-athletes earn CAA accolades in the same season.
"Today was a great day for our program. We tied the best CAA finish in program history and had two All-CAA performers for the first time in a single year. We came up a little short of our goal of winning the championship, but there's a lot of optimism about the future," head coach Ryan Waite said. "We can hold our heads high knowing that we went for it and had our best day of the season."
The top five runners for the Blue Hens were separated by just 30 seconds, while the entire team clocked in all within 1:01 of each other. Delaware was the first team to have all five runners cross the line.
"Our depth was really shown today with how closely we finished together," Waite said. "It's a testament for how hard this group has worked and how much they enjoy running for each other. Our future is very bright with the depth that we showed today."
Dunn led all Blue Hens with a ninth-place finish, clocking in at 21:35.20, while Ramirez was just four seconds behind at 21:39.60 in 11thplace.
Jeannette Bendolph grabbed a top-20 finish with a time of 22:00.70, while teammates Stephanie Bazan and Susanna Weir were right behind her in 22:02.70 and 22:06.10 to round out the top five Blue Hens, who all finished within the top-25 of the race.
Delaware will now focus on the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals, which will be run in two weeks in State College, Pa.
