NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men's basketball head coach Martin Ingelsby has announced that Villanova transfer Dylan Painter has joined the Blue Hens program.
Painter, a 6-9 forward from Hershey, Pa., spent just over two seasons with the Wildcats, and was a member of their 2018 NCAA national champion squad. He will transfer to UD following this fall semester, and becomes eligible for the Blue Hens following the conclusion of the 2019 fall semester. He will then have one and a half seasons of eligibility at Delaware.
Painter appeared in 23 games for the Wildcats as a freshman in 2016-17, totaling 20 points and 31 rebounds. He posted season-highs of 10 points and six boards in 22 minutes of action in Villanova's Big East Tournament win over St. John's.
Painter then sat out last season as a redshirt, and started the Wildcats' season opener this season against Morgan State. He appeared in Villanova's first two games, recording five points and six rebounds in victories over the Bears and Quinnipiac.
Painter was a first team All-State selection as a senior at Hershey High School, when he averaged 22.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game.
"We are very excited to announce the addition of Dylan Painter to our basketball program," Ingelsby said. "Dylan is a talented frontcourt player whose skill set and competitiveness will be a great asset to our team. He comes to us having been a part of a winning culture at Villanova University, and we expect that his experience and leadership ability will make a positive impact on our group."
