Delaware Comeback Falls Short in 71-60 Loss to UCF
12/9/2018 9:24:00 PM | Women's Basketball
NEWARK, Del. – Playing on their home court for the first time this season, the Blue Hens came up just short to UCF, 71-60, Sunday evening at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Delaware, which fell behind early, was able to cut a 23-point UCF lead to just 10 in the fourth quarter, but unfortunately there was just not enough ticks left on the clock.
Junior Abby Gonzales led the Hens (3-6) with 18 points to go along with two assists, two rebounds and one steal while classmate Samone DeFreese contributed 10 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Freshman Jasmine Dickey added seven points and seven rebounds while fellow freshman Paris McBride collected eight points and four assists.
The game was marred by turnovers as both Delaware and UCF (7-1) posted 25 miscues in the contest.
POST-GAME QUOTES
Head Coach Natasha Adair
"This was another tough one tonight. 'Coach Abe' has done a great job since taking over the job at UCF. Our players showed fight and that's what I've been working for and wanting all year. I saw this team compete at a level I haven't seen yet. To accentuate the positives, we had 20 turnovers in the first half, but followed with just five in the second. UCF hit us hard with the trap and at halftime we urged our players to relax and control the tempo. For a team that is still learning and maturing, this is a great game to learn from. Non-conference play is all about preparing us for the CAA portion of our schedule and I'm excited to see where we are in January."
HEN SCRATCHINGS
• The game's 50 combined turnovers tie for 14th in Delaware single-game history since 2002-03.
• Alison Lewis earned her first career start for the Blue Hens.
• Delaware has featured six different starting lineups in nine games so far this season.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE

• Thursday, December 20 – #7/7 Maryland at Delaware – 3 p.m. – Bob Carpenter Center (Newark, Del.)
