ELON, N.C. – The Delaware men's tennis team's historic season came to a close Friday morning as the eighth-seeded Blue Hens fell to top-seeded William & Mary, 4-0, in the CAA Tournament Quarterfinals at Elon University's Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The loss snapped a five-match winning streak for Delaware, which wraps its season with the second-most victories in program history at 17-8.
The Tribe (12-10) opened the day by picking up doubles wins in the second and third flights.
The Hens put up a good fight, but William & Mary came away with the victories in the fifth, first and fourth singles slots.
POST-MATCH QUOTES
Pablo Montana
“We were right there with them in doubles, but they returned and poached better than we did. In singles, they overpowered us at 4, 5 and 6, but we battled and fought until the end. At 1, 2, and 3 we were true to our plan and strategy and the scores were close, but in the end they were the better team today. Overall, this has been a good season and I thank my players for giving me their commitment day in and day out. We were able to reach some of the goals we set this year and we set some team and individual records and I'm excited for the future of Delaware Tennis.”
