NEWARK, Del. – Each cross country race is really a microcosm of how the entire season plays out. It's about putting yourself in the position to win, getting better as the race goes on and finishing strong.
That's exactly what the University of Delaware cross country team is in the midst of doing and a strong showing at Saturday's Delaware Invitational at White Clay Creek State Park is an example of getting better and better.
Facing a team in Richmond that has won two of the past three Atlantic 10 Championships, the Blue Hens finished second among five teams and saw huge improvements, a very big encouraging sign for head coach Ryan Waite.
Junior Diana Dunn led the way for the Blue Hens yet again, finishing fourth overall, clocking in at 23:07.0. Classmate Roxanne Ramirez had a huge day, posting a 42-second course PR with a time of 23:22 for sixth place
Senior Jeanette Bendolph was just two spots back of Ramirez, finishing with a 12-second improvement from the time she clocked on the course last year.
Junior Stephanie Palese had the biggest jump, finishing the six-kilometer course in 24:26.6, more than 44 seconds faster than her time on the same course last year.
In total, the Blue Hens had seven of the top 15 spots in the race.

"It was great to have Richmond in the race because it motivated us to perform at a higher level for our team. I was really proud of Roxanne, Jeanette and Stephanie for making such big improvements on their times on this course last year.
