Blue Hens Have Strong Showings At Two Meets
9/30/2018 10:00:00 AM | Women's Cross Country
NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's cross country team had a busy weekend, racing in both Wisconsin and Pennsylvania this past weekend. Don't worry though, they didn't run the nearly 1,000-journey between the two states.
This past weekend, the Blue Hens had runners at both the Nuttycombe Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, as well as the historic Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University.
Junior Diana Dunn continued her strong season with a top-25 finish amongst some of the country's best cross country programs. She clipped the tape in 21:55.55 to lead the Blue Hens. Classmates Roxanne Ramirez (22:44.1) and Stephanie Bazan (22:59.6) round out the top-three finishers for Delaware.
On Saturday at the Paul Short, junior Mackenzie Jones and Lauren Zodl have battled injuries for the past two seasons, but both finished in the top-50, clocking times of 22:41 and 22:51 to lead the Blue Hens on the six-kilometer course.
Coach Waite on the Nuttycombe
"It was a tough day for us from a results standpoint, but there were a lot of positives we can take away from it when we put it into contest of the process of a season. It's just the time of year when there's a lot of sickness going around and unfortunately that hit us pretty hard this week. Hopefully, we can get feeling better heading into our home meet next week for our final tuneup for CAA Championships."
Coach Waite on the Paul Short
"Mackenzie and Lauren ran great races at Paul Short. They are on a slightly different training schedule than the rest of the team so it's a good sign to see them coming along at the right time."
