Blue Hens Drop 3-0 Decision to UMass
9/2/2018 3:00:00 PM | Women's Soccer
NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's soccer team battled not only the heat, but a rested and potent UMass squad on Sunday afternoon at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
The rest proved to be the difference as the Minutewomen used two second-half goals to propel past the Blue Hens, 3-0, in front of a great crowd.
As they had all season, Delaware started strong, holding UMass off the board for the first 30 minutes as the teams battled for possession. The Minutewomen started to make a push earning back-to-back corners, which resulted in a scramble in front and the game's first goal in the 35thminute.
The game would remain at 1-0 into the second half until UMass got loose down the left sideline and found the second goal of the game in the 51stminute.
UMass' insurance goal came in the 81stminute when they drew a penalty kick to make it 3-0.
Delaware would try to pressure with several near breakaways with Riley Dixon, but the Blue Hens were unable to connect as UMass held on for the 3-0 win.

"I think today proved that we're still not at a point where we can put together back-to-back performances in a short amount of time, either from a depth level or a game fitness level. We certainly have a lot of work to, but because of how short these seasons are and how quick these games come, we'd be foolish to not turn our attention quickly to Penn on Friday." – head coach Mike Barroqueiro
