(NEWARK, Del. – Sept. 7) Christiana Care Health System will kick off its partnership as the official health system of the University of Delaware Blue Hens at the home football game against Lafayette College on Saturday, Sept. 8. Christiana Care representatives will be presented the game ball on the field during the pregame show.
"Christiana Care Health System and the University of Delaware have so much in common—great people, a strong mission, an historic past and a very bright future," said Janice E. Nevin, M.D., MPH, president and CEO of Christiana Care. "Together, we make a great team."
As part of the partnership, the Christiana Care Impact Award will be presented at each home football game. This award will honor a University of Delaware student who has demonstrated outstanding service, inspiration and leadership to benefit the health and well-being of the Delaware community.
The University of Delaware and Christiana Care will also come together for the anti-bullying campaign, "Be a HERO." The campaign engages with local elementary schools to challenge their students to pledge to behave positively and fill their Blue Hen buckets with acts of kindness toward each other.
"Christiana Care and the University of Delaware have been partners in learning and research for many years. This new partnership takes the engagement in the community to new heights," said Chrissi Rawak, University of Delaware's director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services.
As the official health system of the University of Delaware Blue Hens, Christiana Care will continue to work with the athletic department to ensure the health and wellness of the university's 600-plus student athletes. Christiana Care also will sponsor the annual Coaches vs. Cancer games for the men's and women's basketball programs.
Fans can also engage in new health initiatives and fun learning experiences at Christiana Care's tables in the Anchor Buick GMC Fan Zone, in the small parking lot between the Bob Carpenter Center and Hospitality Village, prior to kick off for home football games.
