WILMINGTON, N.C. – Blue Hen freshman Ithiel Horton set the UD single game record by knocking down nine three-pointers and tied the freshman mark with 31 points to lead Delaware to an 82-69 victory over UNCW Thursday night at Trask Coliseum.
Horton finished 10 of 15 from the field, including 9 of 13 from three-point range, to lead the Blue Hens (12-6, 4-1 CAA) to their fourth consecutive victory. Eric Carter posted his 10th double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Ryan Allen was the third Blue Hen in double figures with 10 points.
Delaware shot 51.9 percent from the field, and tied its season-high by knocking down 15 three-pointers. The Blue Hens also finished 13 of 14 from the foul line and assisted on 16 of their 27 buckets.

Horton scored the Blue Hens' first 12 points on four three-pointers, while a Collin Goss layup put Delaware back in front for good at 22-21 midway through the half. Late in the period Darian Bryant hit a layup and a three-pointer before Horton knocked down his sixth triple of the period during an 8-0 run that put the Blue Hens up 13, before Shawn O'Connell converted a three-point play to bring the Seahawks within 41-31 at the break.
Delaware then opened the second half with a 10-3 run, highlighted by a pair of Matt Veretto three-pointers, to extend the margin to 51-34 with 17:20 to play.
The Seahawks closed within 68-57 with six and a half minutes to play, but Ryan Johnson answered with a three-pointer and Kevin Anderson added a dunk to put the game away.
Head Coach Martin Ingelsby
"I'm really happy with how we competed tonight against a good basketball team. It helps when you're making shots, and we just kept feeding Ithiel Horton. I really like how our group is playing right now. We wanted to limit (Devontae) Cacok's touches, and Eric Carter did a pretty good job against him. We didn't want him to get comfortable, and disrupted their flow. Ithiel had an unbelievable night. He's a confident kid, and we just got the ball in his hands and got out of the way."
Game Notes:
• Delaware has posted its second four-game winning streak of the season
• The Blue Hens have won four straight CAA games for the first time since winning the first 11 games of 2013-14
• Delaware is off to its fifth CAA start of 4-1 or better since joining the league
• The Blue Hens won their sixth road game of the season
• Carter has recorded double-doubles in four consecutive games
• UD's 15 three-pointers are tied for fourth most in school history, and its 35 attempts are tied for third most
• Delaware defeated UNCW for the third straight meeting
