Delaware Names Women’s and Men's Golf Captains For 2019 Spring Season

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware Director of Golf Programs Patty Post has announced the Blue Hens men's and women's golf captains for the 2019 spring season.
Jack Melville and Nick Vecellio will serve as captains for the UD men's team while Ashley Dingman, Valentina Mueller and Ariane Klotz will serve as captains for the women's squad.
Melville, a junior from Maple Glen, Pa., appeared in all five tournaments this fall for the Blue Hens, ranking second on the team with a 72.20 stroke average. He has appeared in 16 tournaments during his UD career, averaging 74.29 shots per round.
Vecellio, a senior from Fogelsville, Pa., tied for 31st place at the Wildcat Fall Invitational during his lone appearance of the fall season. He has competed in two tournaments during his Blue Hen career.
"Jack and Nick will be great captains for this young men's team," Post stated. "They definitely do a fantastic job leading by example and earn their teammates' and coaches' respect."
Dingman, a senior from Fairfield, Calif., appeared in all four invitationals during the fall, when she posted a 77.33 stroke average. She has competed in 32 tournaments during her career, averaging 77.57 shots per round.
Mueller, a senior from St. Niklausen, Switzerland, competed in three tournaments during the fall season. She has averaged 77.76 shots per round during her 31 career appearances as a Blue Hen.
Klotz, a junior from Noumea, New Caldedonia, led UD with a 74.17 average round in the fall, and tied for fifth place at the Blue Hen Invitational. Her current stroke average of 74.71 is the lowest in Blue Hen history.
"Ashley and Valentina have done a great job leading and have been true ambassadors for this program and will continue to give it their all through graduation day and beyond! Ariane will be a great addition to the captain team and will help the transition when Ashley and Valentina graduate," Post said.
Both Blue Hen squads open their spring seasons on Feb. 16-17, as the men will compete in The Invitational at Savannah Harbor in Savannah, Ga. while the women will participate in the Mercer Invitational in Reynolds Plantation, Ga.
