NEWARK, Del. – A 26-point performance from junior Samone DeFreese sparked Delaware Friday afternoon in its 65-53 victory over UNCW at the Bob Carpenter Center.
DeFreese shot 10-of-19 (.526) from the floor while going a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe to record a career day. The forward added a season-best 11 points for her seventh career double double – and the first of the season.
Graduate student Makeda Nicholas also saw double figures with 11 points while senior Alison Lewis contributed eight points for the Hens (7-11, 2-4 CAA).
In a game that saw six lead changes and four tied scores, the two teams held a 28-28 stalemate at the half. DeFreese changed the story and gave the Blue Hens the lead for good with the second half's first basket just 20 seconds in.
