ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Boston in early March can be a little bit chilly.
But there's no other place that the members of the University of Delaware indoor track and field team want to be the first weekend in March when the ECAC Championships take place.
This past weekend at the Navy Invitational, the Blue Hens added four more to that trip to Boston with freshman Alyssa Armor (500 meters), junior Michaela Meyer (800 meters), senior Jeanette Bendolph (1,000 meters) and the Distance Medley Relay all punched their ticket to Beantown.
"I was really pleased with the way our team performed today. They've put in a lot of hard work and it's paying off at these early meets," head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith said. "As a staff, we're excited to see how we continue to improve and post better and better performances in the next few weeks."
The Blue Hens posted seven performances among the top-10 in school history, highlighted by Armor who set a freshman record and the second-best time in school history in the 500m with a time of 1:15.53.
The foursome of Susanna Weir, Sydni Stovall, Carly Pettipaw and Lauren Zod ltook home the win in the distance medley relay with an ECAC qualifying time of 11:59.07.
Stovall also clocked a top-10 time in school history, finishing in the top-five of the 500m with a time of 1:17.01.
Bendolph (1000m) and Meyer (800m) both took home second place finishes in their respective events, both running ECAC qualifying times. Bendolph broke the line in 2:52.56, which was good for third-best in school history and Meyer clocked in at 2:13.46, good for fourth in school history.
Freshman Ruby Mullen had a huge day in the triple jump, leaping her way into third on the school history chart with a mark of 37' 9 ½".
In total, Delaware came away with 13 top-three performances at the meet.
The Blue Hens return to action next Saturday when they travel to the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College.
