Delaware Drops 56-48 Contest to Towson
1/6/2019 5:08:00 PM | Women's Basketball
NEWARK, Del. – The Blue Hens continue to look for their first Colonial Athletic Association win of the year as Delaware posted the 56-48 loss to Towson Sunday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center.
For the second straight contest, the Hens suffered from poor shooting as UD (5-9, 0-2 CAA) logged a program-low 19.2 shooting percentage by going 15-of-78 from the floor. Delaware also posted a season-low with 15 field goals made.
Graduate student Makeda Nicholas collected a team-best 14 points with nine rebounds while freshman Jasmine Dickey registered a game-high 13 rebounds.
The loss is the first for the Blue Hens against the Tigers since January 2015 and the first at the Bob Carpenter Center versus Towson since February 2008.
POST-GAME QUOTES
Head Coach Natasha Adair
"I will say that we responded with what I thought a tougher effort [than Friday night versus James Madison]. I was proud of how we came out and responded based on our effort. I thought it was a battle, but at the end of the day, everybody wants to win. And I felt like there were opportunities for us to finish around the rim, to finish free throws, to finish plays. Anytime you go 15-for-78, it's not a good shooting night. We held Towson to 56 [points]; they averaged 67 points per game. Our defense did what it was supposed to do, but it's a two-part game; you have to get stops and then you have to score. This is just a team right now that is still searching for that leader, for that person that, at the end of the day, just wants to step right up and knock it down. And we will find that person or we will do it by committee. But this is a group that will continue to fight, and I stand firm on us being the best team that we could be in March."
