Delaware returns home after three straight on the road
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Delaware volleyball team fell in straight sets (23-25, 18-25, 23-25) Monday night at Kaplan Arena to William & Mary to close out its longest conference road trip of the season.
Â
Senior Maria Bellinger had 17 kills on the night while classmate Andie Hanus had 14 digs and five assists.
Â
The Blue Hens fell behind early in the first and were able to claw their way back to tie the score at 14 and four more times in the frame. They fought off a pair of match points to force a timeout from the Tribe before they were able to finish things off in the first.
Â
Again, Delaware found itself down early as William & Mary rattled off eight straight to open the second before the Blue Hens finally got off to a fast start in the third when freshman Lani Mason opened the frame with three-straight aces.
Â
The Chester, Virginia native had eight kills with three aces and three blocks, playing an hour from her hometown.
Â
Delaware returns home for a pair of critical CAA contests, starting Friday night with defending champion Hofstra for Alumni Day and the Dig Pink match at the Carpenter Sports Building before a matchup with Northeastern Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
